This course is intended to describe the critical fire and life safety concerns associated with floating offshore units. Particular attention is paid to concepts which are used to provide overall safety of the facility. The participant is intended to gain an appreciation of the classification and statutory requirements associated with fire and life safety which apply to different categories of floating offshore units.

Overall Facility Layout including the concept of safe design; identification, classification & separation of potential ignition sources from fuel inventory; pool, spray & jet fire considerations; explosion considerations; and fire & explosion mitigation techniques Underlying principles of structural fire protection including definitions of Hydrocarbon, A, B & C rated divisions, fire testing procedures and the practical application of requirements Safety Case requirements and guidance documents - Principles of Escape, Evacuation and Rescue including the safety refuge concept
- Case study of facility design
