Fundamentals of FPSO / FSO Structures     (DES005)

ABS Academy

Fundamentals of FPSO / FSO Structures

New

Course Objectives and Benefits

Conversion of an existing oil tanker is the most common approach for creating FPSO’s. The ABS requirements associated with the verification of the FPSO / FSO structure as outlined in the ABS Guide is detailed and the participant is taken through the design review process to facilitate an understanding with the intent to guide them in preparing submissions for Classification review.

Course Highlights

  • ABS Ship-type FPI Rules Overview
  • Initial Scantling Evaluation (ISE) Strength - midship section scantlings model generation, longitudinal member, transverse bulkhead and main supporting members and workshop for midship section design
  • SEAS (Sea Environment Assessment System) - modeling of Metocean and design waves, motions, loads, fatigue, Environmental Severity Factors (ESF) concept and a workshop on ESF calculation for on-site and history routes
  • ISE fatigue - damage and criteria, critical locations and a workshop of longitudinal stiffeners simplified fatigue evaluation for on-site and for routes.
  • FEA software demonstration, global FE model generation, loading and boundary conditions, solution and post-processing, yielding and buckling evaluation, local FEA review and fatigue assessment

Who Should Attend

Designers with a responsibility for structural design compliance of FPSO / FSO’s.This course meets the requirements of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects for Continuous Professional Development
