Course Objectives and Benefits
This course provides an in depth description of machinery installation and testing associated with the fabrication of steel ships. You will become familiar with the procedures of the installation of the main machinery plants and equipment. The course will highlight the critical issues associated with each machinery component.
Course Highlights
- Propulsion and maneuvering machinery: propellers, thrusters and dynamic positioning systems, propulsion shafting, steering gears, reduction gears
- Prime movers: steam turbines, diesel engines, turbochargers, gas turbines
- Auxiliaries and auxiliary systems: auxiliary boilers and pressure vessels, main propulsion boilers, air compressors and air reservoirs, cargo and ballast pumps, valve remote system, gas detection system in tankers
- Piping system
Who Should Attend
Shipyard personnel and surveyors involved in new construction and in particular members of an owner’s site team with limited shipbuilding experience.This course meets the requirements of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects for Continuous Professional Development.
